Global Partnership

First Lutheran Church of Crystal partners with the ELCA and a companion congregation in Mubi, Nigeria - affiliated with the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN). 

In 1996, a Covenant was developed with LCCN #1, Mubi to work together in three areas: 

1. Study – to learn about the Mubi partner congregation, culture, location, daily life and establishing relationships with individuals, church groups and mission committees.
2. Worship – Pray for each other, enrich each other’s worship through exchange of music and liturgical settings, and pulpit exchange when possible.
3. Action – Development of outreach missions jointly in both Nigeria and Minnesota and the promotion of exchange visits by members of our congregations

By the grace of God and through the joint efforts of First Lutheran Church of Crystal and our partners in Mubi, many exciting things have developed:

• Churches have been established in four outreach areas in Nigeria - three in the Visik Hills and one at Mbiduwa
• A medical clinic was built at Hurenge, a remote area in the Visik Hills
• Four wells were dug to provide clean drinking water
• Groups from First Lutheran Church of Crystal have made three trips to Mubi:
  1. In 1996, the Covenant was developed and the first Outreach Mission site in the Visik Hills was started
  2. In December, 2000, a group of 10 helped to dedicate the Medical Clinic in the Visik Hills
  3. In November, 2006, Pastor Terry Frovik and Jamie Johnson visited the four outreach areas with members of the Mubi church. Linda Van Ryn joined a team from Global Health Ministries.
• Pastor Joseph Umar from the Mubi church received his Master’s Degree at Luther Seminary
• Many relationships have been developed between individuals and groups of LCCN #1, Mubi and First Lutheran

We look forward to future visits from members of the Mubi church and the LCCN and are excited about working with the Nigerian Health Care groups of the Minneapolis Area Synod and the LCCN with the support of Global Health Ministries to help improve health care and improved access to clean water in Nigeria.

Areas of Emphasis:

• Promote an understanding of our church as part of a Global Christian Church and enrichment of our worship through use of Global Music.
• Welcome and support the members of our church who are new immigrants from Africa and other countries around the world.
• Learn factors that cause poverty, hunger, disease and injustice around the world and share the information with the congregation.
• Provide information and opportunities for people to help those who are victims of poverty, hunger, disease and injustice through support of the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, Fairly Traded Coffee and goods.
