Music

Music

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning, your faithfulness in the night, with the ten-stringed harp, with melody upon the lyre.” Psalm 92:2-4

First Lutheran Church of Crystal welcomes new volunteers to the Music Ministry.  Our goal is to lead the congregation in uplifting and heartfelt music at the 9:30 a.m. worship services.

Music Opportunities

Choral choir

Chancel Choir
New, experienced and inexperienced singers are always welcome to join the vocal groups.  The director’s job is to teach you to sing and read music.  Within the Chancel Choir is the opportunity to participate in a variety of ensembles.  In addition to anthems and liturgical music (psalm settings, hymns, etc.), the choir presents larger scale works and global music during worship services and when it participates in choral festivals.  Rehearsal and singing schedules are published in the newsletter and on the website.

Cantor – Psalmist
Auditioned singers rehearse and prepare the Psalms and other ritual responses for the worship service.

Bell choir

Handbell Choir (Youth in Grade 8 and older, with adults)
This musical group of men and women commit to rehearsals and   worship services as decided by the pastor, the group and the volunteer director, Dr. Desiderius Klempay.  The Bell Choir plays on a five-octave set of Malmark Bells.  Note reading is very helpful, but not required.  Rehearsals are published in the newsletter and on the website.

Instrumentalists (Youth in Grade 8 and older and adults)
Individuals who have the desire and ability to perform as soloists or members of a smaller ensemble are encouraged to provide special music during worship services and other occasions.   Contact Dr. Desiderius Klempay, Organist and Coordinator of Instrumental Music, by calling the church office if you would like to participate.

Music Ministry Support

Volunteers are needed for various non-singing or playing duties to help the various groups.  Activities include care in organizing octavo choral binders for the singers and instrumentalists.  Help in maintaining the worship service choral gowns and collars is also appreciated.

Want to participate?  Do you have questions, concerns or ideas?
Contact the church office, 763-537-4576.
